IMPORTANT! Before you start...
For this DIY to work on your hair, it must be bleached to a Level 10, i.e., white-blonde. If this is not the case, and you want to achieve this result, we recommend you contact one of our professionals.
If your hair is very golden (yellow)—and bleached to a Level 9 or lower—you will not achieve the colour indicated in this DIY.
Step 1: Protect yourself
Before working with any dye, it’s important to protect yourself so you don't stain anything. To do this, you can cover yourself with a colouring cape (waterproof), a smock, or simply wear an old sweater that you don't mind staining. It is also recommended to wear gloves.
Step 2: Prepare the pink-lilac shade
Shanie used Revlon's Nutri Color Filters 1002 Pigment Treatment (¾ of the recipe), and Redken's Pink Blonde Pigment Mask (remaining ¼ of the recipe). No need to measure the amounts with great precision, you can go by eye. 😉
The total amount of the mix will depend on the length of your hair. For example, a total of 60 ml would probably be enough for short hair, while you'll probably need twice that amount for long or thick hair. If in doubt, start with a smaller amount of mixture and reapply as needed. But be sure to use the correct proportions so that the color stays the same.
Step 3: Colour application
Applying direct pigments (the type of colouring used in the mixture you just made) can be done on slightly damp hair (fully towel-dried).
The best way to avoid forgetting a section is to first apply the colouring with a brush on the 2 main separations: one from the front to the back, the second from one ear to the other (illustration’s blue lines). You’ll now have 4 sub-sections.
Then, continue the application by making rows in each subsection (illustration’s purple lines). You can use a wide-tooth comb to even out the application.
For an even look, apply colour from root to tip. Otherwise, leave the color out of the tips and move on to the next step…
Step 4: Pink tips
If you want to have pink tips like Shanie, you should now only apply Redken's Pink Blonde Pigment Mask to the tips.
Step 5: Pause and rinse
After applying the product, leave it on for 20 minutes, ideally with a plastic cap to prevent it from drying. Then, rinse thoroughly with cool water (or warm, but not too hot) until the water runs clear.
Step 6: Dry and style
It's done! All you have to do is dry your hair and style it the way you want.
